Bronze bottle vase by Japanese artist, Hasuda Shugoro (1915 - 2010). Modernist, cylindrical form with tapered neck, central bow-string band and fine circular engraving. Signed to base.

  • Size - 21cm H x 5cm W

  • Functional - Can hold liquid

  • Made in Japan, Shōwa period (1926-1989)

  • Condition - Good vintage condition, some age related scratches and marks

Hasuda Shugoro was a prominent Japanese sculptor. He studied at the Tokyo School of Art, graduating in 1938. His work gained recognition at the 5th Nitten exhibition in 1949, and he received Nitten's Hokuto prize in 1953. Shugoro co-founded the Creative Crafts Association in 1961 and became an assistant professor at the Tokyo University of the Arts. His sculptures, known for their architectural form, were selected as official gifts for the prime minister of West Germany and the president of Mexico. Shugoro received prestigious awards, including the Mombudaijinsho in 1959 and the Japanese Order of Cultural Merit in 1991. His works are held in various notable collections.
