Vintage Japanese Yamanaka lacquerware hand-carved wooden cup set with spiral design to inside and base. Finished in layered vermillion and black Urushi lacquer.

Yamanaka wood craft is famous for its Kashokubiki (decorative woodturning) technique, where horizontal ridges are carved onto the wood using specialised chisels while it's spinning on a lathe. The wood is coated with multiple layers of black lacquer, creating a heavy, stone-like appearance while remaining incredibly lightweight.

Ideal as functional everyday cups or for display.
