Yoshitoshi Mukuhara (b. 1929) is a highly respected master of twentieth-century Hagi-yaki (Hagi ware). Working from his historic Furuhata Kiln (Furuhata-gama) in Yamaguchi Prefecture, Mukuhara is celebrated for his command over traditional, heavily layered glaze compositions and expressive, hand-formed faceting. His works are highly prized by collectors for their raw wabi-sabi character, beautifully contrasting delicate, white finishes with rugged, earthy structural forms.
