Katagami-style Karatsu Ware Chawan Bowl by Japanese master Inoue Tōya (1942–2012), crafted at the Kagamiyama Kiln. Commissioned in 1971 to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Urasenke Tankōkai - the official global association of the Urasenke School of Tea.
A striking, sculptural tea bowl defined by its stark, dual-toned aesthetic. The cylindrical body contrasts a glossy, deep iron-black slip against an understated, warm cream glaze. A raw division line leaves the earthy, coarse Karatsu clay exposed around the foot. Complete with its original signed wooden Tomobako box.
Size - 12cm W x 8cm H
Origin - Karatsu, Saga Prefecture, Japan
Period - Shōwa era, dated 1971
Material - Stoneware
